Klasser, Dr. Gary D. DMD, Cert Orofacial Pain
Dr. Gary D. Klasser is an Associate Professor in the Division of Diagnostic Sciences at Louisiana State University, School of Dentistry. He obtained his dental degree from the University of Manitoba (Canada) in 1980. Over the next 22 years, he enjoyed the practice of general dentistry from both a public health and private practice perspective until he returned to graduate studies in 2002. In 2004, he completed his training and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Certificate in Orofacial Pain. In 2005, he completed a fellowship in Oral Medicine/Oral Oncology at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). From 2005 – 2011, he was an Assistant Professor and Director of the Oral Medicine/Orofacial Pain clinic at the College of Dentistry in the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Klasser has published in a number of peer reviewed journals and has contributed chapters to various textbooks while serving as an editorial reviewer for a number journals. He is also co-editor for the next edition of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain book entitled: Orofacial Pain: Guidelines for Assessment, Diagnosis, and Management.
Jones , Ms. Jo-Anne
Ms. Jones is a dental hygienist who offers courses in therapy as well as on general topics of interest to the entire dental team as well as women specifically.
Jo-Anne is the president of an educational and clinical training company dedicated to excellence in quality education and team training. Jo-Anne has been selected as one of the DPRUs Top 25 Women in Dentistry and joins the 2017 Dentistry Today CE Leaders for the 7th consecutive year. The Elizabeth Craig Award of Distinction was presented to Jo-Anne in recognition of her exceptional and ongoing commitment to promoting the dental hygiene profession.

Polonsky, Dr. Marina
Dr. Marina Polonsky graduated from the University of Toronto, Canada in 1999, with the Dean’s Gold Medal of Achievement, and is a member of Omega Kappa Upsilon Honour Dental Society and Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity. Since 1999, Dr. Polonsky maintains a private general practice in Ottawa, Canada, with focus on multi-disciplinary treatment utilizing lasers of different wavelengths. She is the owner of the Alta Vista Laser Dental Centre in Ottawa, Canada since 2006.
Dr. Polonsky holds a Mastership with WCLI (World Clinical Laser and Imaging) Institute since 2012,
Mastership in Diode and Erbium lasers from AALZ (Aachen Dental Laser Center) since 2015, Master of Science in Lasers in Dentistry degree from RWTH University in Aachen, Germany since 2016. She is a founder of the Canadian Dental Laser Institute (CDLI), an organization dedicated to providing quality continuing education in Laser Dentistry in Canada. CDLI is now the only ALD affiliated international study club in Canada.
Dr. Polonsky is actively involved in the educational aspect of lasers by teaching laser safety courses, Diode and Erbium certification courses throughout Canada, as well as lecturing world-wide on laser-assisted dentistry. She is a key opinion leader(KOL) and a Clinical Mentor for Biolase Technologies Inc. and has been involved in the development of the newest all-tissue laser system Waterlase Express. Dr. Polonsky is the only certified WCLI trainer in Eastern Ontario and is the only one in Canada affiliated with all 3 major International Dental Laser organizations: WCLI, ALD and AALZ. She also serves on editorial advisory boards for JLAD (Journal of Laser-Assisted Dentistry) and LIDS (Lasers in Dental Science) by Springer. In 2017, she has agreed to take on a role of the Editor of Laser Dentistry edition of Oral Health Journal.
Olmos, Dr. Steven DABCP, DABCDSM, DABDSM, DAIPM, FAAOP, FAACP, FICCMO, FADI, FIAO
Dr. Steven Olmos has been in private practice for more than 30 years, with the last 20 years devoted to research and treatment of craniofacial pain, temporomandibular disorder (TMD), and sleep-disordered breathing. He obtained his DDS from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry and is Board Certified in both chronic pain and Sleep Related Breathing Disorders by the American Board of Crainofacial pain, The American Academy of Pain Management, American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, and American Board of Craniofacial Pain and Dental Sleep Medicine.
Dr. Olmos is the founder of TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centres International, with over 45 licensed locations in seven countries dedicated exclusively to the diagnosis and treatment of craniofacial pain and sleep disorders. He is currently the president of the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain.
Grisdale , Dr. Jim B.A., D.D.S., Dip. Prosth., Dip. Perio., M.R.C.D.(C)
Dr. Grisdale is a Board Certified Specialist in Periodontics and Prosthodontics and was formerly an Assistant Professor and is currently a sessional lecturer in the Department of Periodontics at Loma Linda University with a part-time periodontics/implant practice in Vancouver, B.C. Dr. Grisdale received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from McGill University, as well as a postgraduate degree in Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics. He then went on to the University of British Columbia where he received an additional postgraduate degree in Periodontics.
Dr. Grisdale received the Award of Merit for Restorative Dentistry from McGill University. He lectures extensively in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. He is a mentor for Periodontics and Prosthodontic Study Clubs. He is also a sessional lecturer for Continuing Dental Education at U.B.C. Dr. Grisdale has published in the area of treatment for dentin sensitivity, implants, bone regeneration and soft tissue periodontal adhesives. He is an active participant in clinical research and the study of contemporary periodontal products. He is a member of several professional societies.
Johnson, Dr. Lisa
Dr. Johnson graduated from the University of Toronto School of dentistry in 1999, after which she went on to work in private practice for 13 years. During 8 of these years, along with her husband, she owned and operated a dental practice in a rural community in Ontario. She returned to the University of Toronto in 2012 to complete a 4 year degree in oral pathology and oral medicine. During her specialty training she also completed a Master’s of Science degree. In November 2016, she relocated to Halifax, where she took an assistant professor position at Dalhousie University. Her duties at Dalhousie include research, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and managing the oral pathology biopsy service. She also has a clinical practice at Citadel Oral Surgery in Halifax. Her special interests include mucocutaneous conditions, dysplasia, and oral cancer.
Dr. Johnson is a new member of the Nova Scotia Dental Association and will be serving as their representative for "Smoke Free" NS. She is a member of both the Canadian and American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. In her spare time, Dr. Johnson enjoys cycling, hockey and taking long walks with her two dogs.
MacEntee, Dr. Michael Geriatric Dentistry
Professor MacEntee is past-president of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, the Geriatric Oral Research Group of the International Association of Dental Research, the International College of Prosthodontists, and the Association of Prosthodontists of Canada. He also received the Distinguished Scientist Award for his research in dental geriatrics, and is an elected Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. Currently, he is the editor-in-chief of Gerodontology and President of the Vancouver Institute.
He has been involved for most of his academic career with the oral health needs of older people - as a teacher, a researcher, and a prosthodontist.
He has published several textbooks, over 20 book chapters and more than 150 peer-reviewed papers on the measurement, distribution, impact and management of oral disorders of older adults. His received research grants from numerous sources, including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research; the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (USA); and Health Canada.
His presentation will provide excellent insight into the many challenges our profession will face in the coming years as we attempt to maintain and restore our aging patients dentition. Unlike previous generations the number of edentulous seniors will be very low and the needs will be great for the elderly.
Quinonez, Dr. Carlos DMD, MSc, PhD, FRCD(C
Dr. Carlos Quiñonez is a dental public health specialist and researcher. He is an Associate Professor and Program Director of Dental Public Health at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto. His research program centers on the politics and economics of dentistry, with a specific focus on health and social equity. He is a recognized leader nationally and internationally on oral health care policy and access to dental care, and is Chair of the Canadian Dental Association’s Committee on Clinical and Scientific Affairs, and Editor of Ontario Dentist, the Journal of the Ontario Dental Association.
Tenenbaum, Dr. Howard Periodontics
Dr. Tenenbaum received his DDS from the University of Toronto in 1978 and then went on to complete his specialty in Periodontics as well as a Ph.D. in bone cell biology by 1982. This was followed by a 2-year post-doctoral MRC fellowship in Bethesda at the National Institutes of Health.
In addition to his degrees, Dr. Tenenbaum has a Fellowship from and serves on the Council of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and is also a Fellow in the International College of dentists.
Dr. Tenenbaum has been on Professorial Staff at the University of Toronto since 1984. He is currently Professor and Head of Periodontology at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto and is also the Head of Periodontics at Mount Sinai Hospital. In addition, he is a Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathophysiology in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. He is also an FDA panel member for Dental Devices and Drugs.
Dr. Tenenbaum has had continuous funding from the Medical Research Council of Canada for the past 17 years and has pursued ongoing research in the fields of bone cell biology (including recent experiments on the US Space Shuttle carried out by Senator John Glenn), Periodontics, and orofacial pain. He has published over 120 articles and abstracts in major scientific and clinical journals.
Daniel, Dr. Nach
Dr. Daniel earned a Bachelor degree in Microbiology and a Masters degree in Molecular Biology in 1995. He then completed a Doctorate of Dental Surgery and a one year multidisciplinary residency at Université de Montréal. In 2006 Dr. Daniel completed his training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Laval University in Quebec City. Dr. Daniel is a board certified Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon and runs a private practice in Moncton New Brunswick. He is also an active member of the Moncton City Hospital.
Abi Nader, Dr. Samer
Dr. Nader attended McGill University where he earned a Degree in Physiology before completing his Dental Degree at the Université de Montréal in 2000. After a one year multidisciplinary residency program at the Jewish General Hospital, he completed his training in Prosthodontics at the Université de Montréal. Currently, he is the Assistant Dean and director of the Division of Restorative Dentistry at McGill University. In addition to his academic position, Doctor Abi Nader holds a part time practice in downtown Montreal and Moncton, New Brunswick.
Thompson, Dr Gordon
Dr. Gordon Thompson has had a distinguished career in dentistry management and administration. Previous management experience includes Associate Dean at the University of Toronto, Dean at the University of Alberta and Chief Executive Officer for the Alberta Dental Association and College. In health policy development, he was a member of the North York Board of Health and Director of Alberta Dental Health Services. He has received the Medal of Honour of the Canadian Dental Association, the Presidential Citation from the International College of Dentists (Canadian Section) and the Distinguished Service Award from the Pierre Fauchard Academy. In addition to his dental degree, Gordon has a Masters and PhD.and has been an authour of more than one hundred refereed research papers. He is a Past President of the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry, Dentistry Canada Fund and the Canadian Dental Regulatory Authorities Federation.
Dean, Dr. Alf
Dr. Alf Dean has enjoyed a career of nearly 40 years. Apart from his involvement in his practice, he has served our profession at both the provincial and national levels. Currently, a partner in the Cape Breton Dental Group, a practice with eight GP's and two specialists, Alf understands both the buying and selling of dental practices.
Dr Dean is a fellow of The Pierre Fauchard Academy, The International College of Dentists and The American College of Dentists. He is a recipient of the NSDA's highest honour, the Dr Phillip Christie Award and also The Outstanding Alumni Award from the Dalhousie Dental School.
As a former president of the Nova Scotia Dental Association and the Canadian Dental Association, he has developed a reputation for honourable service to our profession.
Dolansky , Dr. Bernie
Dr. Bernie Dolansky has had a distinguished dental career including service as President of: the Ottawa Dental Society, the Ontario Dental Association, and the Canadian Dental Association as well as having been a director of the Ash Temple companies and a consultant to Henry Schein Canada. He has also served on numerous professional and volunteer boards and has been awarded Honorary Membership in both the CDA and the ODA.
Bernie practiced and taught endodontics for 37 years during which he transitioned in three partners and numerous associates.
Since 1999 he has assisted dentists with practice evaluations, purchase and sales, associateships, and partnerships as well as lecturing and writing on dental practice transitions.
